Compass Housing Alliance

Compass Housing Alliance (CHA) is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization that develops and provides essential services and affordable housing to people experiencing homelessness and income instability at 20 locations across the Greater Puget Sound region. In offering opportunities for stability, personal growth, and community, CHA aims to create a more just and equitable society for all. CHA envisions a world in which every person lives in a safe, caring community.
For 100 years CHA has been meeting the needs of the community by providing affordable supportive housing and emergency shelter programs for individuals and families experiencing homelessness and housing instability. CHA began in Seattle’s Pioneer Square in 1920 as a haven for those working in the region’s earliest industries. Over the decades CHA has offered increasingly comprehensive assistance to unstably-housed Veterans, families with children, and men and women with complex needs. At present, CHA’s portfolio includes a hygiene center, mail, and banking day services, 252 emergency shelter beds, and 670 affordable studios, one-, two-, and three-bedroom units in 20 affordable, emergency, and transitional housing locations. CHA provides permanent affordable housing for over 2,000 individuals each year. Through all its programs, CHA touches the lives of over 13,000 individuals and families each year.
CHA staff work to provide assistance with increasing financial and social health through efforts such as individual case management and a variety of educational and community-building opportunities. Staff also aim to help guests and residents move forward by increasing protective factors such as resilience, positive choices, and connection to community, family, and school while simultaneously minimizing risk factors such as illegal activity, drug and alcohol use, and other negative behaviors.
At Compass Housing Alliance, we believe that housing changes everything. Home is where we center our lives, providing a safe space to grow and learn, and a place of belonging where we make connections to build a caring community.
Our home for families in South Lake Union, Compass on Dexter, provides 72 units of housing for formerly homeless and low-income families with children. On-site amenities include a children’s center, outdoor play area, shared community room, and case management.
